An opposition councilor has criticized Nortumberland County Council as it looks set to block a £100,000 donation from Blyth Valley Borough Council to help save Seaton Delaval Hall, the Borough council has defended it’s decision to give the gifts saying that the £100,000 is to protect jobs at the hall and create more jobs through tourism. The borough council passed the donation 4 weeks ago despite the opposition from the Liberal Democrats.

A watercolor painting by local artist Tom Dack is expected to fetch several hundred pounds when it goes on auction this evening. The work is called We’re Gaining on them and depicts a yachting scene from early last century. All funds raised from the auction tonight at 7pm at the Art Works Galleries, Ousburn, will be in aid of the Save Seaton Delaval Hall Appeal.

St. Nicholas Church’s Flower festival will begin, with a concert, on Friday October 3rd and will run until Monday October 6th. There Will be over 30 floral displays around the church, as well as stalls selling home made cakes, preserves, Fair trade goods and a raffle. The festival will be opened by Marian Foster, of BBC Radio Newcastle. Tickets will be £5 each and are available from Sandra Stewart on (01670) 716543

The Government has decided to “call in” the planning application for an extension to the recycling and waste site at Seghill, the move has been welcomed by local no to landfill campaigners. An independent planning inspector from the government’s planning inspectorate in Bristol will be holding the enquiry. The application was passed by Northumberland county council by just one vote, however it was overwhelmingly rejected by North Tyneside council. Over 5000 people signed the No to landfill petition and the councils received more than 500 letters of complaint.
